welcome to the website of the Wuhan University Summer Intensive English Program.

Teachers in previous summer programs came from all over the United States. They are graduate students, ESL teaching professionals, and other teachers who are dynamic and interested in teaching interactive English lessons. Some teachers are just beginning their careers and in their 20s, while others are retired and in their 60s. Please take a look around our website and learn as much as you can about how to have a summer to remember in beautiful China!!

Curriculum

Each teacher chooses one of the ten Themes, such as Family in the U.S., Sports and Recreation in U.S. Culture, etc. The Theme is divided into 4 topics, each representing one daily lesson. Some of the topics are suggested/determined by Wuhan University, but each teacher usually has the chance to invent one or more topic lessons which reflect his/her own interest and specialty.

Teachers

Teachers come from all over America to join the Wuhan University Summer Program. Although most teachers have an ESL background, some each year come from English Departments, Communications, and other diverse disciplines.

Lodging

Teachers enjoy the gracious and spacious acommodations of the Luo Jia Shan Zhuang (Luo Jia Mountain Hotel). Situated near the top of Lui Jia Mountain, this hotel features a few restaurants, gift shop, and importantly, many luxurious private rooms overlooking the campus and beautiful East Lake.

Campus

Entering the beautiful campus for the first time, teachers are typically awestruck by the natural beauty of the grounds. Located in the Wuchang district of Wuhan, the campus features LuoJia Mountain, East Lake, No-name Pond, and the majestic Olympic Field where Chairman Mao himself exercised in the 1930s.

travel

Mainly, teachers travel to China as a group, leaving from the closest airport to their home and assembling either on the west coast or east coast. In the previous two summers, teachers have flown directly to Beijing, where they are met by a private tour company provided by Wuhan University, which spends 48 hours introducing them to Chinese culture, food, and customs, while showing them the most significant sites in this stately capital city.

Free Time

Most teachers spend their free time in the evenings either exercising, seeking out delicious chinese cuisine, and shopping. Wuhan, a city of 8 million prople, has much to offer everyone. There are three distinct districts in Wuhan, one of which is Hankou, a short ferry ride across the Yangtze, where teacher have found hours of entertainment shopping. Wuchang, known as the cultural & arts center, is where teachers find the best food, including Hu Bu Xiang, or "breakfast street."
